I have known Finesmith for a long time, and associate them with large avant-garde jewellery. To be perfectly honest, not the sort of thing I wear unless I need something like that for a show. Over the last few months I have had various message saying the store was closing, then that they were back. The store was always there and the range looked the same. The store looked the same too, so I was a bit confused.
I recently I went back again and sure the store had changed. It appears to be a new build, much whiter and brighter than before and to be honest I find myself a bit disoriented in it as there are few points of references. I noticed that the range has changed quite a bit too. There is till the avant-garde jewellery, but now also clothes. (1)
There are several items I liked and decided to try a dress called Dana, which comes in a large number of shades. I could not find a fat pack, which is my usual preference to buy, so I got it in red. As soon as I put it on, it fitted like a glove. I have a range of shapes based on the “standard mesh shape” but I usually find I need to tweak for each designer. There are various colour belts included and I put on the white version. I had to adjust that a bit so it didn’t dig into my back, but unfortunately it’s not a snug fit around the waist. There is a resizer script in the belt which gives the usual +/´adjustment but not in x/y/z directions.
The dress is very nice and I think I look good in it, and I have had several positive comments from others too, so I decided to get a couple more. I tried to buy 2 other colours, yellow and mix2 (a green). The mix2 appeared at once for me to accept, but the yellow didn’t.
I hate it when a product is not delivered. Is it lag, is it a scam, did I accidentally refuse it? So my first point of call, after checking my transaction history, is the redelivery terminal if available. I did an area search and there was one, so I tp’ed to it and ended up in the store next door. Going back to Finesmiths I discovered a customer service area where the group gifts are and there a redelivery terminal. I don’t know why I didn’t find it on the area search, but still it exists. The terminal acknowledged that I had bought the dress and told me there had been a delivery failure. Super, just hit redeliver and get a new copy. Well no, failed again. The terminal told me that a server was not available.
Another thing I hate is disturbing designers. I know how busy they can be, so I really don’t like to call them out of the blue. I dropped Yula a quick IM asking if she had a second expecting no reply but she quickly responded. After explaining the issue, she passed over the missing item instantly. Super.
I had already decided I wanted to blog the dress, so I popped home to put it on, and this time decided the red belt and the yellow dress would be the blogged item. For some reason I could not get the red belt texture to rez correctly. I tried all the usual things, cleared cache, rockets, reboots even another browser. Not a chance. Only when I logged in with another avi on another computer could I confirm what I was starting to suspect. The belt texture was broken. I had the feeling Yula would hate me as I dropped her a note with the belt issue. I had a replacement belt in my mailbox a short time later with an explanation of when happened.
At the end of the day I am very happy with the dresses, and also Yula’s customer service.
